about
This song is a bit of a love letter to early 80s synth pop. It's a mixed bag of influences including Madonna, Eurythmics, and Depeche Mode, with an extra helping of Plastic! The song started as a simple loop Chicken Burger Disco sent over, basically the opening 20 seconds of the song. We sat on it for a long time knowing we had something special (to us anyway) but weren't sure what to do with it exactly...Then Spark! happened!
lyrics
SPARK!
----------------------------------
I've been waiting for you
My heart is a mess
I've been looking for you
My head is a mess
You are my obsession
Just can't get enough
One lasting impression
It's never enough
Isn't this refreshing
I need to know now
Always keeps me guessing
A victim of now
I just need to hold you
So shiny and new
I just need to touch you
And its nothing new
It only takes a Spark!
It only takes a Spark to start
It only takes a Spark!
It only takes a Spark to start
I've been waiting for you
My heart is a mess
I've been looking for you
My head is a mess
You are my obsession
Just can't get enough
One lasting impression
It's never enough
Isn't this refreshing
I need to know now
Always keeps me guessing
A victim of now
I just need to hold you
So shiny and new
I just need to touch you
And its nothing new
It's nothing new - It's nothing new
It only takes a Spark!
It only takes a Spark to start
It only takes a Spark!
It only takes a Spark to start

Layering guitars and saxes over synths and drum machines, this Oakland duo's darkwave is as melodically potent as it is texturally rich. Bandcamp New & Notable Feb 1, 2024
